Hormone replacement therapy is now a widely available treatment option for women over 40-specifically for those who feel run-down, prone to weight gain, ( sometimes for the first time in their lives) and out of other options when it comes to treating symptoms of menopause. This includes Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) to Balance hormones and improve certain conditions.

The use of hormones to help control symptoms like fatigue, bloating, low sex drive and thinning hair is very controversial. Some women swear by its beneficial effects, while others remain fearful of potential side effects. When it comes to the effectiveness and safety of BHRT replacement therapy, studies show mixed results. The FDA states that it’s “concerned” that BHRT claims mislead women and health care professionals, giving them false sense of assurance about using potentially dangerous hormone products.

Here’s my opinion:

While hormone therapy might be better than some other standard medical options, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is not the ideal treatment approach either. My advice is that in most cases BHRT is not completely necessary.

I have treated thousands of pre/menopausal women that has achieved amazing results without the use of hormone replacement therapy and BHRT treatments and the many risks that go along with it- By optimizing your nutrition, create customized fitness plans, managing stress and improving your lifestyle you can effectively transform the way you look and feel. As a functional medicine doctor, I address fat loss and fat loss resistance from a completely different approach than traditional hormone replacement practitioners. I focus on balancing key hormones that are known to fluctuate and disrupt a women’s weight, appetite, and satiety signals during pre/menopause. With an easy to follow plan, and habit transformational counseling, my patients achieve permanent, sustainable weight loss and regain their vibrancy and zest for life.
